Not quite what I expected. The visuals were excellent. This film is desperately trying to emulate Quentin Taratino, yet it lacks all his wit and charm. He teeters over the edge without going over it or losing sight of a character's humanity.

Day 73 - March 14, 2010
I've been thinking a lot about love. What is love? How do you define and express love? We all know what it is, we all feel it, we all know what love should be, ideally, but it is difficult to encompass with words. As I was thinking these things over today, I began to think of the movie Addicted to Love with Meg Ryan and Matthew Broderick, and this one scene in which both characters try to define love. It always brings a smile to my face, and it's definitely one way to think about it!

Day 61 - March 2, 2010
I've been thinking about vision and sight. From our perspective, things can look disheartening at times and we fail to see a purpose or a meaning behind it all, but from a different perspective, things would look much different. What seems like utter despair and misfortune today, could be a blessing in disguise. I tend to be short-sighted at times, especially when things don't seem to be going my way, but in the end, things may not be as they appear. In the hope of things to come, I try to keep in mind to look at things from a different perspective. This brought to mind the Powers of Ten video by Charles and Rae Eames as a literal demonstration of the power of perspective.

Day 36 - February 5, 2010
I hadn't seen this movie in years, but it is one of my utter favorite films. Superbly shot, with a compelling story line, and excellent performances by all of the cast. I'm using this film for a writing clip I hope to submit for a job application later next week. I need to let it settle a while before I set out to write. It's an interesting experience to revisit a film I haven't watched in ages, I'm always worried that it might not be as good a movie as I remember it to be, but Gattaca did not disappoint. It was definitely worth another viewing, and I think it'll be one of those movies that simply gets better with age.

Day 9 - January 9, 2010
Saw the movie Invictus. Aside from the uplifting and inspiring message of the movie, I found myself moved by the trials Nelson Mandela suffered and by the fact that as horrible as his circumstances were, he surpassed them. After spending 27 years in prison, having been wrongly convicted, he emerged a better person and forgave those that oppressed him. I looked up the poem by William Ernest Henley, and decided to post it here as a reminder that we are more than our circumstances.
